You don’t have to sit in your cabin and sulk if the weather isn’t cooperating on your cruise. In fact, you may find that you’ll have even more fun exploring the ship and all the many amenities that you might not find if everything went your way. One thing is certain, there’s never a lack of activities aboard a cruise ship and a rainy cruise day could be the perfect time to explore those possibilities. You’ll be surprised how much fun it can be to have a day of adventure, where you sample things you normally wouldn’t try.
Explore the Ship
Before you decide to sulk in your cabin about the rainy cruise, consider a treasure hunt to find a particular spot on the ship. Normally there’s a general map or pamphlet in your cabin when you arrive that gives the whole layout. It may have been buried and ignored, but now is the time to rescue it and put it to good use. Look for a destination on the map that’s a distance from your cabin. It could be a restaurant you haven’t tried, shopping or even the Kid’s Club. Put on your walking shoes and set out on your adventure. You’ll find a lot of interesting activities along the way, meet people and get to know the layout of the ship.
Read the Daily Itinerary
Cruise lines have special entertainment and activities daily listed in a newsletter given to each passenger the previous evening. If you see something you want to do later, it might be time to take a walk and go to its location, just to become familiar with the location. Also make sure to get reservations if they’re necessary so you won’t miss the opportunity. You may find several fun activities you didn’t realize cruising offered or interesting lectures to help you enjoy the next scheduled port of call. The daily bulletin has helpful information such as the hours for spas, bars and restaurants, too.
There’s nothing better than a day at the spa to make you feel pampered and special. Make the rainy day your excuse to go, if you need one, and enjoy every minute. Sometimes even a cruise can get stressful if you’re trying to crowd too much into your day. The foul weather may be Mother Nature’s way of telling you it’s time to take a break and relax. Whether you have a massage or sample the many other treatments available, you’ll come out feeling fabulous and renewed. That’s what cruising is all about, isn’t it?
Visit the Casino and Place Your Wagers
Some cruises offer a Las Vegas style casino with slots, card games and even a roulette table or two. You don’t have to gamble to enjoy this little get-away, sometimes just walking around watching the action can be fun on a rainy cruise. If you’ve never played in a casino before, many of the cruises offer classes so you’ll know what to do if you decide to play one of the games of chance. The flashing lights, whoops of victory and music from the slots to announce the winners can be great entertainment without spending a coin. Check to see if there are any special benefits like match play or free play, so you don’t miss out on a thing.
Hit the Gym
Sometimes, exercise can lift your spirits and make you feel fantastic. Get your endorphins flowing and work off a little of the extra food you probably consumed on this trip. You’ll feel fantastic afterward and also quite noble for doing it!
Check Out the Bars, Restaurants and Shops
This may be the time to finally eat at a restaurant that you missed, check out a band in one of the bars or just do a little souvenir shopping.
Whether you choose to be active or simply order room service and watch a movie in your room, you can enjoy a rainy day aboard a cruise just as much, maybe even more, as a sunny day. Cruises offer plenty of entertainment from Karaoke to indoor swimming that will add to your vacation memories.
